About Wine Cellar Advisory

Wine Cellar Advisory was founded to make wine more accessible and profitable—whether for individuals building a collection, restaurants optimizing their beverage programs, or businesses navigating the complexities of their distribution, operations and finances in a dynamic market.

It all started when our founder became the go-to "wine guy" among friends and family. Last-minute wine questions—like "What should I bring as a gift when meeting my boyfriend’s parents?" or "How do I navigate this 300-page wine list?"—became routine. Recognizing a widespread need for expert guidance, he set out to provide tailored wine solutions at scale.

Today, Wine Cellar Advisory offers:

  • Private Client Services – Personalized cellar consultation, collection management, and wine sourcing.

  • Outsourced Beverage Program Management – Helping restaurants and hospitality businesses run more profitable, expertly curated beverage programs without the cost of a full-time hire.

  • Business Consulting – Strategic guidance for wine importers, distributors, and brand owners, from distribution strategy to bulk and blend planning to financial optimization.

Beyond providing expert wine advisory, we are committed to sustainability. With a deep appreciation for regenerative viticulture and its role in improving soil health and biodiversity, Wine Cellar Advisory donates 1% of its profits to the Regenerative Viticulture Foundation. This initiative supports growers in adopting regenerative practices, helping to combat climate change and set new standards for sustainable agriculture.

Whether you're a collector, a restaurant owner, or a wine industry professional, we’re here to help you make informed, profitable, and sustainable wine decisions.

Matthew Kochard

Founder

Matthew founded Wine Cellar Advisory with expertise across the fine wine industry, combining a background in wine buying, finance, and sales with a passion for wine discovery.

Matthew began his career in investments, working with endowments & foundation in San Francisco, before visits to nearby Sonoma and Napa turned his attention to the world of wine. What began as a pastime exploring new regions and studying for exams from the Wine & Spirits Education Trust (WSET) led to roles in production and finance at Duckhorn Wine Company, retail and education at The Urban Grape, and global wine buying at Latitude Beverage Company, where he sourced and blended wines from around the world.

Matthew earned the highest wine certification from WSET with the Level 4 Diploma and his MBA from the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth. He has taught WSET courses and led a panel on sustainability in wine. When he’s not helping clients build collections, he spends his time hiking, skiing and sunbathing in the mountains with his wife.
