About Wine Cellar Advisory
Wine Cellar Advisory was founded to make wine more accessible, rewarding and profitable—whether for individuals building a collection, restaurants optimizing their beverage programs, or businesses navigating the complexities of their distribution, operations and finances in a fast-moving industry.
It all started when our founder became the go-to "wine guy" among friends and family. Last-minute wine questions—like "What should I bring as a gift when meeting my boyfriend’s parents?" or "What do I order from this 300-page wine list?"—became routine. Recognizing a widespread need for expert yet approachable guidance, he set out to provide tailored wine solutions at scale.
Today, Wine Cellar Advisory offers:
Private Client Services – Personalized cellar consultation, collection management, wine sourcing, and expert-led events, gifting, and travel experiences.
Outsourced Beverage Program Management – Helping restaurants and hospitality businesses run more profitable, thoughtfully curated beverage programs—without the overhead of a full-time hire.
Business Consulting – Strategic advisory for wine importers, distributors, and brand owners, covering everything from distribution strategy to bulk and blend planning to financial optimization.
Beyond providing expert wine advisory, we are committed to sustainability. With a deep appreciation for regenerative viticulture and its role in improving soil health and biodiversity, Wine Cellar Advisory donates 1% of its revenue to the Regenerative Viticulture Foundation each year. This initiative supports growers in adopting regenerative practices, helping to combat climate change and set new standards for sustainable agriculture.
Whether you're a collector, a restaurant owner, or a wine industry professional, we’re here to help you make informed, profitable, and sustainable wine decisions.

Matthew Kochard: Founder & Principal Advisor
Current favorite wine: 2016 Pierre Péters, Les Chétillons
Matthew founded Wine Cellar Advisory to demystify wine and help clients confidently build exceptional collections. With backgrounds in both wine and finance, he recognized that navigating the world of fine wine—understanding styles, aging potential, and market value—requires time, expertise and industry access.
His career spans investment consulting for endowments, private placement for private equity, wine production, luxury wine retail, and global wine sourcing, where he blended and purchased wines from top regions around the world. A WSET Diploma holder and Tuck MBA graduate, he has also taught WSET courses and led panels on sustainability in wine.
When he’s not helping clients build collections, he’s exploring new wine regions, hiking, and skiing with his wife.
